The Chewaucan Basin's open space is preserved by large, contiguous working lands, which also help support wildlife habitat and the local communities. The CWC is a volunteer group of local voices working to protect this open space and ensure the people of our communities are heard at multiple levels of decision-making.
An irrigation system that mimics the historic Chewaucan Marsh uses snowmelt to spread water across the landscape. This grows livestock forage and supports community livelihoods, but also supports a vast wetland system providing critical habitat for birds traveling along the Pacific Flyway and living in the SONEC region.
